description of the school
The Hut Combat Arts Club was founded in 1993 when Rogers returned from Africa. The school was moved to an old adobe brick factory on US HWY 70. Rogers rented the building for nearly five years and the Aikido group worked to put the dilapidated structure into some form of order. Still, the building featured nests of scorpions in the cieling, a baby rattlesnake under the fridge, and the club mascot, "Julie," a massive black widow spider living in the bathroom. In honor of the austere building housing the original British school run by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, Sensei Rogers called it “The Hut."
