The Aikibudokan was founded by L. F. Wilkinson Sensei and Lynn Wilkinson Sensei. They had been senior students and teachers in various martial arts for many years under several high ranking Sensei (teachers). Based upon their experiences they saw the need for a dojo designed around concepts sometimes ignored by many schools. These ideas paradoxically were nothing new. They were those used by dojo for decades but in recent times were sometimes pushed aside in favor of more commercially oriented management ideas. These "new" ideas included;
